Surrey Sculpture Society launches first on-line exhibition

Reconnection II by David Paynter

Earlier in the year the Surrey Sculpture Society (SSS) was busy preparing for the Society’s usual full programme of outdoor exhibitions throughout 2020, but due to the current circumstances their proposed schedule of events has meant that their spring and summer events were cancelled.

Until the Society will be able to recommence its outdoor exhibition schedule in the autumn, it will be presenting the work of many of its members in its first ever Virtual Exhibition entitled ‘Unlocking Art’, which will be available on the Society’s website www.surreysculpture.org.uk throughout August, September and into the autumn months.

SSS Chair Henriette Van der Does commented:

“It is with great pride that the Society introduces the public to the latest branch on the SSS tree: Virtual Exhibitions.  After months of lockdown and cancellations of live exhibitions we are ready to show the public that it is impossible to lock down creativity.  Our first VE ‘Unlocking Art’ represents 48 SSS artists and 71 of their latest 3D creations. As usual a wide variety of subject matter, media and sizes, suitable for indoor and/or outdoor, is on offer.  Although we are not able to show the wonderful work in the usual perfect outdoor setting of a beautiful garden, a sweeping lawn or a classy gallery,  we are determined and excited to present our art in this new and exciting format. We hope this proves enjoyable and tantalising viewing for all visitors on our website.”

All art is for sale and sales information will be given at the end of the ‘Unlocking Art’ Virtual Exhibition video and on the Society’s website www.surreysculpture.org.uk

The SSS now has over 250 members spread across the South East of England and further afield across the UK, encompassing both professionals and talented emerging sculptors.  It aims to promote interaction between sculptors, to organise exhibitions and to encourage an appreciation of sculpture.

About Surrey Sculpture Society:

From small beginnings – a group of just fourteen sculptors living in Surrey 25 years ago – the Surrey Sculpture Society has grown into a major force, now attracting considerable interest from the media and been featured on the BBC Radio 2  Arts Show, on BBC One TV and across the arts, gardening and regional media.

The SSS now has over 250 members spread across the South East of England and further afield across the UK, encompassing both professionals and talented emerging sculptors.  It aims to promote interaction between sculptors, to organise exhibitions and to encourage an appreciation of sculpture.
