Like many other organisations, the Surrey Sculpture Society has had to change its plans due to the current circumstances, including having to adapt their first live event of 2021 into a virtual on-line exhibition. The Society will now present their Sculpture Showcase arts event via their website – surreysculpture.org.uk – going live on 27th February and available to access throughout the months of March and April.
The event had previously been planned to take place within the cathedral like setting of the Landmark Arts Centre at Teddington. But when the event became another casualty of the Covid shutdown, the Society decided to create an alternative way to present the work of its members with an on-line virtual exhibition. Despite the change of venue, the Society hopes to retain many of the original features of the exhibition. Visitors to the Society’s website will still be able to immerse themselves, not only in the sculpture and paintings on display, but also view artist demonstrations using video content. All the works of art featured in the virtual exhibition will be for sale.
Caroline Wheaton, the SSS exhibition manager for the event, commented:
“It is so good that technology has allowed us to present our “Sculpture Showcase”
on-line. Whilst it is always difficult to bring 3D work alive in a 2D setting, we have nevertheless brought together a broad selection of sculpture and art that celebrates both the depth of talent amongst our members, as well as the extent of their creative practice.”
“We hope that the public will join us on-line for a fun, virtual showing of our work. In line with our intentions for the live exhibition, visitors will also be able to see a number of demonstrations videos, showing our sculptors using a range of techniques and materials. Despite the difference in format, we hope that our virtual exhibition will provide a positive, cultural start to the year!”
Surrey Sculpture Society members are a successful group of emerging and professional sculptors and their 3D work will be combined with other 2D works of art, including prints and paintings. All the art will be for sale.
Access to the SSS Virtual Exhibition is FREE via the Surrey Sculpture Society’s website surreysculpture.org.uk
