Edna delivers hand knitted teddy bears to Frimley Park Hospital’s Neonatal Unit

Edna Jones who lives at Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society’s Ridgway Court knits everyday and over the last six months has been knitting teddy bears. She was delighted when she heard the Neonatal Unit at Frimley Park Hospital wanted her teddy bears for their babies.

Edna went with Steve one of AWVS activity coordinators to hand deliver her teddy bears.  When they arrived at the neonatal unit they were greeted by a lovely member of staff, Kate Hutchinson, ward clerk, who was delighted with the donations. Kate explained that these are given to the babies while they are in the incubators and are to be taken home with them. Edna loved the idea that they could end up in someone’s memory box. Kate also explained that whilst they have booties and hats knitted they don’t have any bears to which Edna grinned from ear to ear.

On their return home Edna did not stop talking about “the day she will remember for ever” and she was “pleased they were going to a lovely home”.
