Marksmen on target at Mayor’s Mega Quiz Night!

The Mayor and Mayoress, Alison Beckett, with some of the 21 teams taking part at the event.

On Saturday 28th September 2019, over 150 enthusiastic quizzers filled St Joseph’s Church Hall in Epsom for a very special ‘Mayor’s Mega Quiz Night’.

After five challenging rounds of fifteen questions each, on subjects ranging from ‘General Knowledge’ and ‘Current Affairs’ to ‘Food & Drink’ and ‘History’, together with a special 25-point picture round, ‘Marksmen’ emerged triumphant out of the 21 teams taking part, with a very impressive score of 89 points out of a possible 100, soundly beating ‘Beckett’s Brainiacs’ (the Mayor’s team!) and ‘Jean’s Team’ into second and third place, with 79 points and 75 points respectively. ‘The Lost Sheep’ picked up the booby prize for coming last, albeit with a still very respectable score of 49 points.

Councillor John Beckett, the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, together with ‘Marksmen’, winners of the Mayor’s Mega Quiz Night held at St Joseph’s Church Hall in Epsom on Saturday 28th September 2019.

As well as the quiz itself, everyone present also enjoyed a fantastic ploughman’s supper, put together by volunteers from Epsom & Ewell Phab, and a raffle helped to raise over £1,500 for Epsom & Ewell Phab, the Alzheimer’s Society and the East Surrey Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the three charities being supported by Councillor John Beckett during his year as the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell.

The Mayor’s next two fundraising events for his three charities will be a special Mayoress’s Fashion Show at St Joseph’s Church Hall on Tuesday 8th October and a Coach Trip to Portsmouth on Sunday 27th October – for further information, please visit www.mayorscharitiesepsom.org.uk.
