Potterheads aplenty at Dorking charity quiz!

‘You’re A Quizard Harry’, winners of the King’s Arms ‘Harry Potter’ Charity Quiz Night held on Thursday 19th September 2019, together with some of the other best-dressed participants!

On Thursday 19th September 2019, over 120 excited ‘Potterheads’, most in costume, filled The King’s Arms pub in West Street, Dorking to the rafters for a very special ‘Harry Potter’ Charity Quiz Night.

After five rounds of ten questions each, on various aspects of the Harry Potter books and films, together with a special 20-point ‘Name The Character’ picture round, ‘You’re A Quizard Harry’ emerged triumphant out of the 25 teams taking part, with an amazingly impressive score of 69.5 points out of a possible 70, very narrowly beating ‘Moaning Myrtle’s Ministry Of Mandrakes’ into second place with 69 points. ‘Godric Gryffindor’ picked up the booby prize for coming last, albeit with a still very respectable score of 47.5 points. As well as the quiz itself, a raffle and auction of a wand signed by Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, helped to raise £1,000 for Ruff Start Rescue UK, a non-profit organisation founded in early 2019 who rescue and rehome in the UK dogs that are often overlooked, many from Romania.

Quizmaster, Simon Edmands, who also compiled the questions for the evening, said he was blown away by the number of people taking part and their amazing knowledge of all things ‘Harry Potter’, adding, ‘I know very little myself about the Harry Potter books and films and was convinced the questions I was setting would prove too difficult for most people taking part – how wrong I was! What an amazing night – huge thanks to everyone who supported it so generously!’.
