Approximately 17% of people will experience a common mental health problem in any given week
So, we are asking you to use the week of 20-26th July to run 17 miles in order to raise both much-needed funds and awareness.
What: run 17 miles in a week, getting friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you along the way! There will be prizes for the fastest times, and for the most raised. As a thank you for taking part we will be holding a Zoom yoga class mid-week, where you can commiserate about your blisters or celebrate the highs of a personal best with your fellow participants, which we hope will bring real sense of community to this challenge.
When: The week of 20th to 26th July
Where: Any local roads, trails or your home treadmill! You can choose your route—the only requirement is that you log at least 17 miles during the week. If you need some route inspiration we’ve scoured the internet for the best ones around Guildford: see here and here.
We also will have a Strava group for this challenge, where you can keep track of your miles alongside other participants.
Why: Whilst we think this will be a great event and an even better excuse to get outside and be active, the main goal is to raise much-needed funds to be able to continue to provide mental health services to those who really need them during this difficult time, as well as to raise awareness around the large number of people who struggle with their mental health each week.
Oakleaf remains completely committed to providing crucial support to our clients and to helping them endure the challenges they face not only now but also as we emerge from this COVID-19 crisis. We know that, moving forwards, the impact of the pandemic will result in even greater numbers of local people needing our experienced mental health support.
