TEA has an enticing amber colour with a hoppy and slightly fruity aroma. Hogs Back use the finest English malt carefully balanced with local Fuggles hops. This is gently fermented to leave some of the natural malt sugars, giving a full and satisfying flavour with a long, dry finish.
TEA was first brewed in August 1992 by Martin Hunt, the founder of Hogs Back Brewery. After much head scratching, he eventually hit upon the name of TEA because it spelt out exactly what it is – a Traditional English Ale.
In 1997 the brewery wanted to enter TEA for a single hop variety competition but it had 2 hops in it. So they dropped the Goldings and went with 100% Fuggles. They didn’t win but TEA tasted even better, so they stuck with it and 3 years later it won Gold at the Great British Beer Festival and runner up Champion Beer of Britain so the decision wasn’t too bad! hogsback.co.uk.
