Dirty Dancing – the classic story on stage

G Live – Tuesday 20 April to Saturday 4 May

Dirty Dancing is back, exploding with heart-pounding music, breath-taking emotion and sensationally sexy dancing. Seen by millions across the globe, this worldwide smash hit tells the classic story of Baby and Johnny, two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, who come together in what will be the most challenging and triumphant summer of their lives. This incredible production  is the same as the film, scene-by-scene (with a few little surprises); the iconic music is played live on stage by a band of fantastic musicians. All your favourite Dirty Dancing hit songs are featured including Hungry Eyes, Hey! Baby, Do You Love Me? and the heart-stopping (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.

The film became a worldwide hit at the box office and was ranked as the fifth highest grossing film of 1987, reigniting our love of dance, introducing a new style of erotically charged, partner dancing to the world . It generated two multi-platinum soundtracks that sold over 39 million copies, and still counting;  Time of My Life won the Academy Award for Best Song the year the film was released.

We asked the three stars of the show about their favourite songs from the show:

Kira Malou (Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman) ‘Hungry Eyes. I love that song and always have. Before I even auditioned for the show it was my alarm in the morning!’

Michael O’Reilly (Johnny Castle)  ‘For me it’s (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life. It was a massive hit and it’s such a popular song, but it’s my favourite because it comes right at the end of the show. It’s such a climactic moment where everyone is on stage dancing together and there’s a moment where Johnny comes through the crowd so there’s a real connection with the audience. ‘

Simone Covele (Penny Johnson) Mine’s Do You Love Me? Love the routine, love the song, and it feels free where it’s like a party scene with your mates. It’s really raw and fun.’
