Pilates with Malgosia Underwood

On 3rd January 2019, VantagePoint’s Jesse Boon went along to one of Malgosia Underwood’s Pilates classes in Dorking.  Jesse has attended numerous classes with different instructors over the years, and was impressed by the level of support Malgosia provided and knowledge demonstrated during the class.

In 2007 Malgosia Underwood moved with her now-husband from Poland to Dorking, where she has been offering Pilates classes for over 7 years now.  Her qualifications are impressive, with level 2 qualification in body exercise to music from Future Fit Training and a full level 3 specialist diploma in Pilates.  When taking this diploma Malgosia undertook additional modules in orthopaedic conditions, allowing her to provide classes tailored to those who recently had surgery and those with injuries.  It should be taken into account, however, that Malgosia cannot offer medical advice as she is not a medical professional.

Malgosia’s classes are mixed ability, offering a variety of adaptations and progressions for each move so that everyone can work to their own level. All equipment is provided, and groups are small, with a maximum of eight people per class.

Malgosia has successfully completed a level 3 award in pre and post-natal exercises and can advise what moves should be avoided during pregnancy, such as excessive twisting when on your back, and offers pregnancy-related classes.  Small adjustments to how moves are undertaken can ensure pilates classes can be undertaken late into pregnancy.  The fact that Malgosia was teaching pilates until she was 39 weeks pregnant with her 2-year old daughter Lilah is testament to just how effective these adjustments are!

To find the class you will need to walk through the front door of Learn Grow Create on 261 Dorking High Street and go up two flights of stairs.  The converted loft has stunning views over the Surrey Countryside.
