The White Horse, Hascombe.
Hascombe has several beautiful trails to walk, and I have taken advantage of these routes a few
times, walking past the white horse pub and always commenting about how welcoming and quaint it
A couple of weeks ago, I went in for lunch and I wish I had gone in sooner!
We were met with a lovely welcome and shown to our table where we shared an array of starters. I
have to say the one that stood out for me was the crispy chicken salad, five spice served with Asian
slaw, toasted cashews, and peanut dressing. This is not something I would usually order as a starter
however it came highly recommended, and therefore I gave it a go.
The flavours were out of this world, they all worked perfectly together, and the spices complimented
the nutty aspects brilliantly and the different textures within the dish were also very pleasing on the
pallet. I would highly recommend.
I was lucky enough to try some of the grilled flatbread with
burrata and rocket pesto as well as the Brixham smoked haddock fishcake, this came with a poached
egg and parsley sauce. Again, all these dishes were incredible, for me the chicken salad made it to
my number one spot by a tiny margin.
Our mains arrived shortly after and this time I had opted for the special of the day. Smoked rump of
lamb, served with potato rosti, charred crispy cabbage and olive caramel. The lamb was so tender, it
absolutely melted in the mouth, the potato rosti added a nice texture to the dish and the olive
caramel complimented the crispy cabbage perfectly, with hint of truffle flavours as well. It was a
delight to eat. I did not want it to end.
For dessert I chose the dark chocolate brownie, with raspberry and white chocolate chip and served
with pecan and brown butter ice cream. The sharpness of the dark chocolate against the smooth
creamy sweet ice cream was delightful.
The food was excellent, the service impeccable and I can’t wait to go back soon again. Thank you all
for making it such an enjoyable experience. I cant wait to come back again.
