Mandira’s Kitchen looks forward to the easing of lockdown restrictions

We have all been confined to home for so long with Lockdown and are really missing meeting up with friends and family.  But with the vaccine rollout and infection levels dropping, as long as we stick to the rules for the time being and remain vigilant we can look forward to better things to come.

The first big change for socialising should happen on 29 March, all being well, when the Rule of 6 returns allowing friends and family to meet up outdoors including in private gardens.  By then the weather will have improved, and the dark winter months with short days will be a thing of the past.  That can of course only mean one thing – bring out the BBQ!

Mandira’s Kitchen have put together a BBQ box (available from April 2021) to help you celebrate with friends and family.

Named Angare (meaning Embers), its inspiration is taken from a narrow, chaotic, aptly named by-lane called Gulli Kebabiyan (or Lane of the Kebabs) beside Delhi’s famous Jumma Masjid, where the descendants of the chefs to Mughal Royalty produce some of the best grilled meats in India. The box can be ordered online by a Wednesday, ready for a weekend BBQ and delivered to any UK Mainland address or collected from Mandira’s Kitchen at Silent Pool in Surrey – where you will also be able to enjoy the idyllic surroundings and enjoy a crispy warm samosa and Indian street food with a cup of masala chai.  There are 2 box and 4 box options to suit vegetarians and non vegetarians alike and an option to add some lovely sparking wine from our neighbours Albury vineyard or beer from the very local Firebird Brewery.  Dishes include marinated meats, dips, fish in banana leaves, breads, salad and ice cream.  All options can be found here:

From 29 March, providing the rule of six is applied or two households, picnics will be allowed too!  Or you can just have a picnic in your back garden – and why not!  The Mandira’s Kitchen picnics come ready to eat in a beautiful tiffin box (£15 deposit refunded on its return or keep for future use), and a choice of spiced gin, masala chai, Albury Vineyard wine or Firebird Beer. The picnics can be collected from the Mandira’s Kitchen shop at Silent Pool, and you can then take a walk in the idyllic Surrey Hills and enjoy your picnic with amazing views or just return home and head for the garden.  Pre-prepared picnics can be ordered here:  .  For those who don’t live near enough to Silent Pool to collect a ready-to-eat picnic, you can order the dishes, tiffin box and flask to make a special picnic at home – just heating up the food in 4 minutes in a microwave, and packing it yourself to set off to your local beauty spot.

Once we get to 17 May – its possible that larger gatherings will be allowed up to a maximum of 30 outdoors, but frankly its been so long since anyone cooked for more than their immediate household, there is no shame in ordering from the Mandira’s Kitchen range of dishes.  Its easy to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian, and as the dishes take only 4 minutes in the microwave, there’s more time to spend with the family and friends you’ve been missing.

Mandira Sarkar said: “We have all missed travelling and dining with friends and family this last year. So until we can travel, we thought we would bring the streets of India delivered to you – to enjoy with friends and family.

All items can be ordered online from and either collected from Mandira’s Kitchen at The Silent Pool Guildford or delivered to any UK Mainland address.
