On Friday 1st June a couple of the VantagePoint team went for lunch at the Giggling Squid in Guildford. It was a sunny afternoon, so we decided to sit at a table outside by the cobbles of Chapel Street, which was reminiscent of eating outside a restaurant on holiday in a European city. We were given prawn crackers with a sweet chilli dip while we browsed the menu.
As well as individual tapas dishes and larger dishes, Tapas Sets were available, each comprising 4 individual tapas dishes. We chose two Tapas Sets to share (“Wealthy Squid” and “Starving Squid”) as well as an additional Sleeping Honey Duck and Thai Pork Dumplings for good measure.
Our server George was very kind and provided excellent service, make it feel like we were at a high-end restaurant. He provided us with warm side plates to help us share our food and kept our water topped up throughout the meal.
The Lamb Massaman Curry was one of the highlights, with a delicious creamy taste and cashew nuts complementing it excellently. The Shredded Duck Spring Rolls, which came with the “Wealthy Squid” set, were another particular favourite of ours. They were larger than any spring rolls we have ever had before – the size of a tortilla wrap but with that satisfying crunchy exterior – and came in a hoisin sauce with a sprinkling of sesame seeds.
For dessert we shared the Prosecco and Muddled Berry Cheesecake and the Caramelised Mango Cake. The cheesecake was remarkably light and airy- really something special. The cake was indulgent in a very different way as it was warm, sticky and somewhat heavier than the cheesecake – real comfort food. We tried too many dishes to go into detail on each one, but suffice to say we were very impressed – there were so many individual flavours, and both the food and service were outstanding, making our trip to The Giggling Squid a wonderful experience.
