“Made with love and delivered as absolute perfection” – Shelley and Gov

Within a month of launching the business last year, this uniquely artistic cake designer had quickly established The Goldfinch Kitchen as one of Surrey’s most exciting new businesses. With multiple requests coming in every week for one of her delicious creations, The Goldfinch Kitchen has an exciting year ahead.

I’m Esther Bullock, cake-designer, baker, gardener, wife and mother-of-two. Our village of Horsell is surrounded by the beautiful woods and hills of the Surrey countryside and is also where I run my cake-design business, The Goldfinch Kitchen.

The Goldfinch represents positivity, optimism, inspiration and a sense of adventure – all qualities I love to bring to work with me each day when I’m creating my cakes. My family and I get so much joy from watching these beautiful little birds feast on seeds in our garden.

It’s been really important to me from day one that the process of designing, baking and decorating each cake always be true to me and my passion for the best quality British ingredients and beautiful artistic design. I put a lot of myself into every project. I’m typically contacted with requests for cakes which are elegant, natural and distinctive but also bursting with special flavours, colours and unexpected treats. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be asked to create something bespoke for each of my clients and I love to ensure its always a truly creative and collaborative relationship. After all, cakes are just so much fun!

My most popular signature style incorporates delicately coloured buttercreams and edible flowers, grown right here at The Goldfinch Kitchen. Roses, marigolds, lavender, hydrangeas, pansies, rosemary and strawberry flowers are all carefully selected directly from our garden. I source fruits from our local green grocer, Boz & Ali’s, and eggs from our local farm shop, Tenaker. One of my clients even supplied me for a few weeks with fruits from her allotment in the village.

When I’m not baking, I’m teaching piano to youngsters or singing soprano with exciting new all-female choral group, Corra Sound. I also spend as much time as I can letting off steam in the countryside with my boys.

I’m incredibly fortunate to be doing something so rewarding and creative. I love that my cakes make people smile and am hugely proud when each one is set-up and ready to be shared and enjoyed with loved ones at each special occasion.

Esther quotes “I am incredibly proud and excited to have been announced as a Finalist. What I do is very rewarding, but to be recognised for that is phenomenal feeling”
