Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden- a day out for all the family

Every adventure requires a first step The Cheshire cat, Alice in Wonderland.

Every time I have the pleasure of visiting the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden I feel as if I have fallen onto the set of Alice in Wonderland. This magnificent garden is filled, not only with exquisite sculptures, but lovely winding paths that lead through towering leaves overhead and over quaint bridges with bubbling streams flowering underneath them.

From the second you turn left into their driveway, one is transported to a green paradise. The driveway waves in between the trees and sneak previews of the sculptures can be seen. When you arrive, you check in at the treehouse-like reception where you are armed with a comprehensive map and route plan, to ensure none of the sculptures are missed.

The route leads you through such an array or terrain, some sculptures placed nestled in the trees, with others placed in the middle of the ponds. The garden is indeed a work of art itself and nature and art work together to create the spectacular ambiance that is felt.

The garden does not only contain innovative artwork, it is also home to an array of wildlife. Ducklings, geese and herons frequent the ponds, as well as hedgehog troughs that are placed within the gardens, long eared bats gather in the trees, and as well as other wildlife calling the gardens home, they all allow domesticated four legged visitors around the gardens, providing they are kept on a short lead.

Each year I visit there are about 200 pieces that are showcased at the garden, these range from local artists to worldwide sculptures who want to show their work here. Every trip is unique as well as the artwork shown.

It really is an experience for all the family, and after you’ve meandered around the garden, why not stop and have a picnic on the grass afterwards? It’s a great way to spend an afternoon getting back to nature.
