Mandira’s Kitchen aim for 1001 free meals and counting

Mandira’s Kitchen aim for 1001 free meals and counting…

Local business Mandira’s Kitchen pledged to provide 250 freshly made nutritious meals for children combating holiday hunger during the half term school holiday and distributed from Park Barn centre. This 250 pledged meals rose to 500 after incredible support from the local community.

In addition their social media appeal for assistance resulted in generous people and businesses contributing extras which meant not only did the children get a hot meal but a complete food package for the day including, soup, snacks, fruit, drinks  and chocolate.

Mandira Sarkar says: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of people. It proves community spirit is alive in these uncertain times. We have received anonymous donations, “tooth fairy “ donations and even  a £250 contribution from ten year old girl.

In an ideal world no one would go hungry, but until then, we are doing a bit and aim to provide at least 500 meals every school holiday

During the first lockdown Mandira’s Kitchen provided over 500 meals over 10 weeks to the volunteers at the Royal Surry County Hospital and now plan to provide another 501 meals over the Christmas period taking it over 1500 meals this year.

Donations from businesses and individuals are still very welcome  and vouchers can be bought here;

Mandira’s Kitchen is an all-woman artisan food producer, operating out of a 400-year-old converted cowshed at Silent Pool in the Surrey Hills.  The company creates Indian dishes using local produce, traditional family recipes, freshly frozen to preserve flavour and goodness, with no preservatives, vegan, gluten free and dairy free options.

In addition to supporting local families with free meals, Mandira’s Kitchen is continuing during this second lockdown to be the source of weekend celebrations with their specially themed Weekend Thali meals; their subscription service, and delicious home cooked Indian dishes available to buy online for delivery or click and collect.  These make excellent Christmas gifts too!
