Godalming Town Council is delighted to announce that Godalming’s Nightingale Cemetery has achieved a Gold award in the 2021 South & South East in Bloom competition and was also judged the overall winner in the Small Cemetery Category. Equally pleasing is the Gold award for Eashing Cemetery in the Large Cemetery Category. As a first time entrant for Eashing this is a fantastic achievement.
These awards are a fitting testament to the dedication, skill and professionalism of the Council’s grounds staff Jason Hunter and Holly Harvey who look after both cemeteries. Godalming cemeteries are not only places of peace and tranquillity for residents and visitors but they are also managed for the benefit of our natural environment by improving the bio-diversity of the area to support the flora, fauna and habitat for wildlife and pollinating insects.
Mayor of Godalming, Councillor Michael Steel said of the awards, “These awards recognise the commitment of the Godalming Joint Burial Committee in meeting the aims of the Council’s climate change emergency declaration. Thanks must go to everyone involved in this great achievement.”
