Julie West Solicitor is delighted to be walking in the 2019 Guildford Legal Walk on 8th July to raise funds for free legal advice in Surrey.
Surrey has been recognised as a legal aid desert for all social welfare law where poor and vulnerable people have great difficulty gaining help with serious problems. Last year the Surrey Law Centre closed down, so there is currently no specialist legal service in Surrey to advise on social welfare.
We are therefore walking to help the South West London Law Centres set up three pro bono surgeries and an office in Surrey, focusing on housing law. Local surgeries greatly help people unable to afford to travel a great distance. With a regional office, we understand that the Legal Aid Agency would provide a legal aid contract for housing issues in Surrey. Once the new Law Centre has a stable footing, then it will consider expanding into other services such as immigration and employment law.
Please therefore help us get this Law Centre up and running. The Guildford Legal Walk is the main fundraising event of the year for free legal advice in Surrey. Please support our walkers as generously as you can.
To sponsor us, please go to our fundraising web page here. Alternatively, we are pleased to offer donation over the telephone at your convenience. Please telephone the office on 01372 383273 and ask to speak to Martin Whitehorn, if you would like to pay over the telephone using a debit card.
Many thanks for your support.
