Music brings people together

Quintet within the London Chamber Music Group

From October 2021, the Haslemere Methodist Church will become an exciting “music hub” for the community. Not just evening concerts open to the public, but engaging with young musicians in local schools and the wider community.

This ambitious programme is spearheaded by local musician Susan Milan, former Principal Flute of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, chamber musician, soloist and professor of two London conservatories. The London Chamber Music Group will be the resident ensemble of the Haslemere Methodist Church and will present high calibre evening concerts. The concept of a “music hub” in Haslemere Methodist Church emerged after Susan visited the church and recognised that with its beautiful Sanctuary, this would be a wonderful home in which the professional musicians of the London Chamber Music Group could regularly perform.

Susan proposed a series of five monthly concerts of chamber music from October 2021 to March 2022, as well as a comprehensive outreach programme, and this was met with enthusiasm from the church. The season’s programme will include noon-time charity concerts and workshops for young woodwind players. In 2022, there are plans for a Woodwind Competition for young aspiring musicians aged 12-18 years with a Prize Winner’s concert in the church.  The project is now launched!

Haslemere Methodist Church is at Lion Green, Weyhill, GU27 1LD and set back from the road [with Dylan’s ice-cream parlour next door]. All concerts will take place in the Sanctuary — the large ground floor hall in which 10 am Sunday Services take place. Facilities have been fully modernised and are most comfortable.
