Neals Store & Workshop, is one of the area’s hidden gems, in fact it is a best kept secret that many would happily keep to themselves, a throwback to an age when affordable quality and customer service really mattered. The business is one of the community’s success stories, a small business going from strength to strength, but never losing the warm, friendly and professional feel that is immediately obvious when you walk through the doors.
Nestled in the Surrey countryside at Whipley Manor Farm just off the A281, between Bramley and Cranleigh, the showroom is full of quality vintage, painted and upcycled furniture to choose from. There is also a bespoke repair, paint and restoration service for furniture and kitchens and a design, build and fit service for shelving, cloakroom and under stair storage, as well as other various on- site projects.
Owner Neal Hankinson started the business nearly seven years ago, since then he has steadily built a loyal client base and expanded the repair and restoration service. Due to the continuing success of the business Neal felt it was time to move into a bigger space and in July leased larger premises next door, this coincided with a successful rebrand to Neals Store & Workshop earlier in the year.
Asked what was the main driver to expand Neal said: “The old showroom and workshop was a great place to start, but the showroom was small in comparison to the new one and could feel crowded, which limited the amount of furniture I could stock. It wasn’t always easy either to show off the furniture on sale as well as I wanted. The restoration, painting and repair service has also seen a significant increase so I needed a bigger workshop to accommodate this.”
The new premises hold a very spacious showroom allowing Neal to display a wider range of furniture, as well as containing a larger workshop area to carry out any restoration, design and build works. Neal says: “The feedback of the new showroom has been great. Both existing and new clients have been very impressed with the layout and range of stock we now offer, also the extra room and storage space in the workshop means we can carry out all types of work, providing greater flexibility for our customers.”
Neal adds “It has been a fantastic journey to date, starting a business in something I am really passionate about was both very exciting and scary in equal measure. Like all new businesses it has taken a lot of hard work and long hours to get to this point. However, I am very lucky because I am doing something I truly love and really feel part of the local community.”
There is no sign of Neals passion waning after nearly seven years, there is certainly no itch, just the same dedication and passion that has made Neals Store & Workshop the business it is today.
