Guildford Rugby Club – Give Girls Rugby a Try!

In light of the continued successes of the Guildford Gazelles Women’s Rugby Team as well as the fast growing sport of girls rugby across the UK, Guildford has started a dedicated girls rugby development group at the club.

The club is rightly very proud of The Gazelles who play in the RFU Women’s, Championship South West 2 which is one national league higher than our Men. This is a phenomenal achievement and is all the more remarkable given that we have no girls rugby beyond the age of 12. Until now that is!

The first three Sunday’s have seen a very promising uptake. We are concentrating on girls aged 8-12 (year groups 5-7) for the remainder of this season with a view to playing non contact and/or against other clubs developing girls teams, like Farnham and Cobham. The U10 and U11 girls will aim to compete at the June 2018 Surrey Youth Games in Touch Rugby. Then, from Sept 2018 we plan to launch girls teams in the older age categories as well.
