The Guildford Fringe Festival.
Way before I worked for VantagePoint magazine I knew of Nick Wyschna. He was a one man band with a dream, the dream was to expose all of the talent we have nestled in and around Guildford.
Over the past few years Guildford Fringe Festival has gone from strength to strength and it is all because of the hard work and dedication to all of the people involved in the mammoth task of putting together such an inclusive and individual festival.
Last Friday I was invited to a Fringe BBQ where I was lucky enough to meet and chat to a number of people who are involved in, and invested in the fringe. It was lovely to meet such a down to earth, humble bunch of people, not forgetting Jake, the fringe dog!
Everyone I spoke to had a different story about the fringe, ranging from nurturing it from the get go, to being a loyal supporter who had been watching the shows for years.
As I spoke to Nick it was apparent that his passion for the festival grows year on year. As well as helping raise profiles for professionals in the field, Nick also explained how the festival has helped people come out and enjoy an evening on their own, and as the festival goes on they make a group of friends and arrange to go and see performances with other people. There is a real sense of community both with the fringe and their audiences.
Guildford Fringe Festival is one of the youngest Fringe Festivals in the world but with one of the biggest hearts!
Guildford Fringe is an open access multi-arts festival in the heart of Guildford Town Centre which runs for the month of July every year.
In this historic and beautiful town Guildford Fringe Festival invites all artistic genres to get involved, it is literally open to everyone.
The festival is becoming known for edgy, exciting and diverse events that are shown at a number of venues in Guildford Town Centre which range from theatre, burlesque, comedy, children’s events, music, dance, exhibitions, talks, workshops and cabarets!
