The Walled Garden, Cowdray
On Sunday 11th June the Taylor clan set off for an afternoon tea at the Walled Garden, Cowdray. We arrived slightly earlier so that we could have a wander around the gardens. The gardens are in full bloom at the moment, with an array of colours and scents. We meandered down the paths with peonies and roses winding around trellises either side of the paths.
After a lovely walk we went into The Room in The Garden, located onsite at The Walled Garden and settled down to our Champagne tea. We had a lovely table for three all set up and awaiting our arrival.
As soon as we were seated we were offered a glass of champagne, which was lovely and cold and a very generous sized glass at that! My sister was with us and she is Gluten free. As we had stated this before our arrival the kitchen was aware of the dietary requirement and acknowledged that they were creating a separate tea for her.
Our teas were brought out on quaint cake stands with second-to-none attention to detail. We had an array of sandwiches on the bottom tier, fresh bread, fresh fillings and a great selection to choose from. The layer above was filled with warm sausage rolls as well as freshly baked scones, complete with jam and clotted cream. Finally, with the top layer containing a selection of homemade cakes and The Room in The Gardens signature shortbread.
It really was a brilliant afternoon. Jan was attentive and accommodating and ensured that she came over and checked that we had everything we needed, even though it was a busy afternoon with other parties partaking in the Champagne Tea and a musical event in the evening. And to put some perspective on the quality, my sister said it was the best gluten-free selection she had ever experienced, and she works and dines in Mayfair, London!
Great value, great experience and I couldn’t recommend it enough.
